April 04, 1905 - Helen School District was formed south of Middletown, at the Helen Mine, near the Sonoma County line and is thought to have been held in a dwelling house. Later, there was a regular school in School House Flat, about ½ mile soutwest of the Helen mine. Many of the miners had large Italian families, and there were quite a few children in this school.
